true, and it has all but 3 scaps 2nd gen. while wolfgangs bird is, to say the least, confusing - i haven't seen such a retarded cachi in october yet. do you have more pics of it, wolfgang? is that a ring on its right tarsus? looks odd.Theo Muusse wrote:This is what I suspect to see when looking for cachinnans!

Re: Juvenile ringed Caspian from east
Hi Lou!
Sorry, I have only one further pic from the same direction. Unfortunately the birds are sitting on the wall of a ship lock at a power station (river Donau) and don´t move...
2 days later I spotted the bird again in another position more from backside, looked very impressive. But while I tried to bring my digiscoping equipment in position, a ship came and that was it. Never seen again.
The bird had no ring, that´s a kind of artefact.
Wolfgang

Re: Juvenile ringed Caspian from east
Today quick check of new discovered night's rest of 550 large gulls at Wisla river.
Another 2 new PU codes suprise me a lot
Sorry for image quality but large distance and slow shutter speed didn't foster to me.
Interesting differences between these two birds. PUTK almost white breast and belly
and PUVN less advanced in moult with dark spots on entire breast and belly. Also note on PUVN large white notches on GC
and lower two tertials.

Re: Juvenile ringed Caspian from east
Very poor quality, but keeping up to date my observations of these series i attached another, new PUDT ring read.
Large bird with bulk massive body, rather typical one.

Re: Juvenile ringed Caspian from east
The first juvenile colourringed CG from Ukraine has moved southwards already and was pictured on Zagreb rubbish dump. See Luka´s blog:
http://cro-ringing.blogspot.com/
Although it had been very cold in the last days in Austria, I wasn´t able to look for gulls. The compost management at my local patch in Wörth seems to be in change. This can be the end for intensive large gull observation in Austria

Meanwhile 5 of this c-ringed Ukrainian birds have been read in Austria. Today PUCT was present at the authorities port/river Donau near Krems. To compare with another ringed bird from southern Poland.
