Wörth - Austria

Cold windy weather makes it possible to see still all 4 "common" large gull species at Wörth in March. In a few days CG and HG will disappear for more than a half year...

Some pictures from today including one late HG, one LBBG, one YLG and 3 CG.
Among the hundreds of BHG I spotted rings from Poland, Lithuania and Czechia, but only the Czech ring was read completely.

Hi,

after the michahellis summer here in eastern Austria the situation begins to change in early autumn. Scanning the flocks carefully it is possible to find some CG´s or single LBBG´s.

Meanwhile I have improved my equipment but there are still high distances and pictures are against direct sunlight...
Yesterday more than 100 gulls had been near the compost place, today only 25 birds. Among them a 2cy LBBG and 2 1cy CG´s.
1cy michahellis are looking quite different at the moment - some have moulted completely into 1st winter, others are looking still juvenile. I have added pictures of a classic 1cy michahellis, another 1cy michahellis with strange bill coloration, an adult michahellis, a 1cy CG, a group of 3 1cy including a CG, and a 2cy LBBG (western type?).

nice to have some new pics from wörth.
about your caspian in the group of 3: structurally it shouts caspian, still there are two things to worry: the very micha-like scapular pattern (anchor, more broad than high, while caspians tend more to rhomboidal patterns), still - it's not a double anchor. but look how similar the nearby (left bird) micha looks in terms of scapulars.
and then there are the large pale borders to GC, often seen in mich, less so in cach. so what is it?

Of course I had noticed that too
I must admit I have discovered that "CG" only later on my pic´s, not in field. I have decided to show it as a CG and I have provoked some opposition - thats´good
Personally I would see more features of CG than YLG but maybe it´s a hybrid, perhaps from Romania?

T002856 is my guess.
Ringed 27 05 2006 in Kaniv.
The T serie is non-lipring and shiny.
So it is not upside down..
