Hello,

My first post in this forum. So a short introduction: I am young birder from south east Austria near Graz. Not many Gulls aroung most of the time...

Here is my first question: Picture taken at the 29th of August at Krk, Croatia:


So what do you think? I earlier posted this on http://f3.webmart.de/f.cfm?id=1231426&r ... 65066&pg=1 and there were all meanings to LBB and also fuscus was mentioned. But a LBB would be early for the mediterranean (?).

Hi Martin,
Last week of August is still pretty early in the season for juveniles. However, this bird has the fringes of the wing-coverts and scapulars already worn, and quite some scapulars are missing (moult gaps in scaps). This points to a relatively early hatching date, as is commonly seen in birds along the Med Sea. Note also the pale shins in this bird, good for young micha, not so good for many other taxa. The bird seems to show a gentle built, maybe a female micha?
