Eastern Holland, an impression.
Many subadult birds away from the colony, hanging around the river Meuse.
Eastern influence present in rings read, like Poland (cachinnans) and Germany (tatus, michahellis, cachinnans).

No, but I agree that the bill does look good for cach.
Although I never saw a 2nd winter in march having such a lot of deep yellow.
Cheers, Theo

Re: Limburg 28 03 2013
After searching through the 450 pics of that moment, I found more of the 2nd winter micha.
Well spotted, it's indeed certainly not a michahellis.
Thanx!

Re: Limburg 28 03 2013
hi theo,
in march many 2nd cycle caspian gulls do get a yellowish bill - actually this form of being interspersed with black is quite good for cachi: http://www.lou.bertalan.de/gulls/m_phi. ... nuary-june - well this one being from 23.04.

I should off course have checked your site first.....
Thanx.
Still, apart from Peter and me, no one in for cachinnans on the pics labelled tatus 4cy 2303 and 2393?

Theo, what about the unmoulted secondaries? They have quite clean blackish centres in my opninion. (cf. http://www.lou.bertalan.de/gulls/m_phi. ... nuary-june)
I would expect it more mottled or streaked for 4cy argentatus. Also, the tibia looks quite long and the bill is elongnated.
So yes, I am in for cachinnans
