2cy Baltic Gull ?
On 5th of August 2020 I saw a 2cy LBBG at Hirtshals, Denmark. This bird was unringed and did not show very well. I did not manage flight shots. Can it be safely identified as 2cy and secondly if yes, can it be safely identified as a fuscus? Comments to this bird would be very welcome. The jetblack p...

Re: 2cy cachinnans ?
This michahellis pphotographed by Dirk Van Gansberghe in Rome in May 2015 shows the same type of scaps as "my bird": https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/t31.0-8/1888897_10153243386338397_1193469088873246963_o.jpg https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/t31.0-8/11048749_10153243...

Re: 2cy cachinnans ?
Thanks for the answers.
I think this bird is best left uidentified.
To my eyes it most probably at least have some genes from cachinnans in it.
Best wishes, Rune

Re: 2cy cachinnans ?
Lou, I don't know if they are (i.e. 2. gen retrices). I had not given this any thought to be honest. I only saw the bird very briefly through my bins before it flew of. Theo, what kind of LBBG are you considering. I really do not see this being an intermedius or graellsii let alone a fuscus . The sc...

Re: 2cy cachinnans ?
Hi Lou I have been waiting to hear your opinion. It is greatly aprreciated. If you say the pattern on the scapulars fits within the variation of michahellis then I will rest at ease and accept this as such. By the way: Have you seen this scap-pattern on michahellis previously? Also as I mentioned in...

Re: 2cy cachinnans ?
Really, noboby has any opinions on this bird?
Hans Larsson apparantly thinks this bird best fits michahellis, but I still think the scapulars look worong for this species....
Any thoughts?
Best wishes, Rune

2cy cachinnans ?
Hi
I photographed this 1st cycle gull on the 19th of May at Hvide Sande on the danish west coast.
To me it looks like a Caspian Gull but the dark underwings seems odd. The pattern on the scapulars do not fit michahellis I think.
Also it might be an argentatus x cachinnans?
Best wishes, Rune

Re: A new intersting gull.. Atlantis???
Since no one else has answered: With my limited knowledge on/experience with this form I have a hard time seeing that it should be anything else than an atlantis . The dark hood, mantle colour like graellsii or a bit lighter looks good. Black markings on p4 would be even better so far I remember but...

Hi Peter
Thanks for the answer.
I have to admit that I don´t quite understand what you mean by "dark medial band".
I have added som pics showing the underwing.
