Re: Presumed Heuglini from Hungary
yupp, and i was instantly thinking about that bird. so, yours may well be a heuglini (pale undersides of greater coverts and secondaries actually look good for that candidate), but nevertheless intermedius surely passes Hungary in migration. One adult intermedius-type yesterday here in Stuttgart, a...

Re: Presumed Heuglini from Hungary
szia gabor, i think it is either heuglini or intermedius with the latter (intermedius) probably being the more likely candidate. most LBBG obs. in western romania and which are not nominate fuscus probably belong to intermedius. many norwegian intermedius still are all juvenile in november. and som...

Presumed Heuglini from Hungary
Hi Guys, Here is a 1st-winter LBBG from today from Hungary. It has fresh, intact plumage, not one feather has been moulted. It was as big as the surrounding CGs and it had a bit different shape than that of fuscus of similar age. It also had longer legs, less elongated, wide pale edges of all covert...

Re: 2nd-winter CG with pale eyes and P10 mirror?
Hi Gabor, Always tricky how a pale iris can change your perception of a taxon, at least that's what I experience. Nonetheless, taking this in consideration, cachinnans is not the first option that arises to me; rather dark grey new feathers it seems and some vermiculation on these inner primaries (...

2nd-winter CG with pale eyes and P10 mirror?
Hi All,
Any opinions what this could be besides most likely having cachinnans genes?
Regards,
Gabor

Eastern cachinnans?
Hi Guys,
Here come two cachis with black band on P4 and a black spot on even P3.
It is quite hard to find a cachinnans here at my spot with a full band on P4.
These birds reach what birds showed in Eastern Kazakhstan.
Cheers,
Gabor

Re: Another interesting gull from Hungary
hi gabor, can't have marinus parent with such a compact black tail band. my guess is cachinnans x argentatus. lou Hi Lou, Thanks for the quick reply! How infrequent are CGs with only very few scapulars replaced by mid-November? I don't think I can recall any since I have been watching and photograp...

Another interesting gull from Hungary
Hi Guys, I have just seen a basically juvenile plumaged gull, which, in my opinion share features of both cachinnans and marinus. If this is a CG then can it be a pure one with plumage and moult stage like that? If it shows hybridish characters then what species the parents might be? One thing for s...

ID help needed
Hi Guys, Today, I took some pictures of a quite strange gull (at least for me) near Debrecen, Hungary. Unfortunately, I have nothing on the underwing but I have a feeling that it can't be attributed to any pure species. I saw it standing from larger distance facing towards me and it had evenly strea...

Re: GBBG or HG?
...or cachinnans. admittedly there's little in this bird (apart somewhat from bill shape) reminding of cachinnans but if we assume this bird is somewhere from western european russia, a combo of pale/contrasting herring gull plumage and some 'eastern genes' (whatever features they support or cosupp...
